Exercises on Pronouns and Verbs

 

The most essential and crucial step in the English language learning process is understanding and applying grammatical concepts. This is also the most time-consuming process as it requires regular revision, analysis and practice. Parts of speech, being one of the first grammar topics you will be introduced to, has to be understood well in order to learn every other grammatical component.

The first part of speech you would be learning will be nouns. Once you learn what they are, you get to learn what pronouns are. Comprehending that a noun is a word used to represent a person, place, animal, thing, or idea is key to understanding what a pronoun should be substituting. To check your knowledge of nouns and pronouns, try out the exercise given below.

Exercise 1 - Substitution of Pronouns

Go through the following sentences and substitute the underlined nouns with appropriate pronouns.

1. It is Divya’s birthday today.

2. The money bag was missing.

3. Nandhini, Aswini and Shanthi had pastries from Third Wave Coffee Roasters.

4. The teacher asked all the girls and boys to participate in the dumb charades.

5. I gifted my brother a new bike for his birthday.

6. Sasha’s and Oshin’s parents are in Malaysia.

7. Sandhya’s husband is working in Bangalore as a cyber security analyst.

8. The brown bag is mine.

9. The dog dragged Sheela’s shoes to the end of the street.

Like nouns and pronouns, verbs are the next most important part of speech you will have to make yourselves thorough with as every sentence requires a subject and a predicate, and a predicate cannot exist without a verb.
