Can EMS Training Replace Gym Training

Introduction

Maybe you have seen professionals like Usain Bolt, Roger Federer, and David Haye doing the training while wearing futuristic-looking suits. You must have wondered what those suits are and what's their purpose.

Well, they are called EMS training suits, and the training they are doing is called EMS training. It's a training method that uses electrical signals to activate your muscle cells.

EMS training has been there in the market for quite a while, but only a few people are aware of it. This is because it was only used for medical purposes and rehabilitation. You can even say that it has been a tool for therapists to help people recover from surgery or any rehab injuries.

Furthermore, this has been a go-to training at home for professionals in their off-seasons. But, lately, boutique workout and fitness influencers are talking about the benefits of EMS training in the person's workout routine.

While some might say that the only kind of workout you need is an EMS workout, some people have to say otherwise. Seeing how the fitness industry has divided thoughts on a tool giving great results, we decided to test it for ourselves.

After using it for four weeks, this is what we have to say. But first…

What Is EMS Training?

EMS stands for Electrical Muscle Stimulation. It is a suit that is loaded with electrodes located near the major body muscles. The suit is connected to wires and a system. The wire helps transfer the right amount of electrical signal for every movement you make.

The suit is designed in such a way that no matter what exercise you are doing, your body will keep receiving a minimum amount of electrical signals. The electrical signal helps your muscles to relax in a state of complete contraction.

That Sounds Like - It Would Hurt, Right?

Well, can’t talk about others. But after trying it for four weeks, it certainly feels a little odd when you try it for the first time. There is that tingling sensation you get from the electrical signal. You might even think that your muscles have grown their own brain.

After some time in the training session, you will get used to how everything feels. While your body will get used to the electrical signal it receives with every movement, you will feel the vibration.

Despite how the name has electricity, the electricity that is passed down through your body is the bare minimum, enough for your body to handle.

How Is EMS Training Beneficial?

EMS training is a training method where you don’t need any weight. Even doing free hand exercises while wearing the EMS suit can help you bring great results. The major difference between doing EMS training and conventional training is hidden in the muscle activation.

When you are doing conventional training, you are training for each muscle individually. But with EMS training, you are targeting all your muscles simultaneously.

You can clearly see the difference. As EMS training uses electrical signals to stimulate muscles, you can use this method for a long period. You need to give it a rest. For instance, if you are doing EMS training for six weeks, you need to give your four weeks rest. Only then can you continue with this method.

This is where you can clearly see the disadvantages of EMS training. On that note, it would be correct to say that EMS training is not a mainstream training method but a supplement training.

Can EMS Training Replace Gym Training?

As exciting as it may seem, simply wearing a suit full of electrodes and switching buttons to exercise is not actual training. In addition, while EMS training can strengthen your muscles and improve their performance, the results are short-lived. And not to mention EMS training equipment is expensive.

So, coming to your question - Can EMS Training Replace Gym Training?

The answer is NO! EMS training is done to ensure your body is getting a full workout. When you use the gym for a workout, you can’t focus on those small and detailed muscle groups. EMS training can help you target them.
